1 When gas got to over $4 a gallon......... on Fri Jun 11, 2010 10:49 pm

Steve from Ohio

back in 2008, I decided to commute with my recumbent bicycle (Sun Speedster CX) . I had to travel 45 miles one way and it was through the Metro parks in of the best places to ride.

I also bought a GoldenEagle bike engine (32 cc) and added a one gallon tank. My top speed with help from pedaling was 38 MPH so my ride was just a bit over an hour.

When gasoline was over $4 a gallon I was able to use only two gallons a week....including leisure travel...which I did every chance I got. My car by the way gets on average 48 is a 91 Honda CRX HF. But I parked it for the majority of the summer of 2008 and got myself in the best shape of my life plus saving tons of cash.

I still ride but am not using the Sun Speedster. I cannibalized it to make my Streetfox recumbent tadpole trike. I have the GoldenEagle bike engine on it and it is even faster than the Speedster.

Who knows where gas prices will be this summer (2010) but they are sure to be higher especially with the oil problem in the Gulf of Mexico.

You can commute with a bicycle and save. It is well worth it and will get you in the best shape ever. Just do it!
